Most modern faucet handles, (assuming there are two) have a small plastic disc that acts as a stop for the knob. It’s adjustable, and can be set for various angles. If it is broken or worn, or if the knob is also, the knob will spin 360 degrees without stopping. It may be time to buy a new faucet. Without actually seeing the faucet pieces, I can’t tell you for sure. I hate the fact that most faucets today are made from plastic. I’m a big fan of stainless steel and brass fittings.
You have an easy problem. There is a stop guard on the handles. Yours must have broken. You might be able to fix it with just new handles. Sometimes it’s the stem that has the stop on it. Shut the water off under the sink, remove the handle and take out the stem, get ont just like it by taking it to the hardware store, and reverse the procedure. Good luck.
